Banana's Book Blog

Reading is synonymous to breathing for me, I usually have my head in book, and if its not, I'm probably regretting not having my head in a book.

Midnight in Death

Midnight in Death - J.D. Robb I actually didnt realize that this was also a Christmas story. What can I say, Eve having to solve a mystery of a man she already put behind bars, was different, and I think that the fact that she was so close to some of the victims, made everything worse. Kinda sad that we didnt get as many of my favorite characters, but this was just a novella. I'm happy to have been able to finish the entire thing at work in one day. Can't wait for the next book.

Christmas with a SEAL (Harlequin BlazeUniformly Hot!)

Christmas with a SEAL (Harlequin BlazeUniformly Hot!) - Tawny Weber Oh man the moment I met Leuitenet Phillip Banks in the last book I knew I would fall for him. There is something about a man who has been through so much, and who was raised to be so different from who he became. I love how mysterious Phillip really is throughout this book. I also loved how much he cared for his sister. It was so evident that he wanted to have a different life, and he wanted to be close to her, but he felt guilty for the way he'd treated her, and the way his parents had treated her. And Lara didn't care in the least she was beyond overjoyed to have her brother back in her life. I think that Frankie was the perfect girl for Phillip, I loved how quirky she was, but I also think she fit him so well because she knew that failure is not something to dwell on, but something that often we impose on ourselves.

Overall a great christmas and love story, I can't wait to see the rest of the team get their HEAs!

Holiday in Death

Holiday in Death - J.D. Robb I have to say that this series though it sometimes seems like I will never catch up, I love every moment I get to spend with this cast. I love that Nora Roberts is able to write such complex and evolving characters, and that she is not afraid to take on the hard topics out there. In facts it feels like in the future they are still just as horrified by certain types of crimes that are being committed by the various criminals. This book does not start off very well, its clear that Eve's job really is forcing her to confront the demons of her past.

I have to say that it was so great to see Roarke try to get Eve into the Christmas Spirit, cause she's Eve and that was not ever going to be easy. But I also loved that she was trying so hard to celebrate for him. I think this particular case was very close to Eve, and while she tried to play it off in the beginning, it was very hard by the middle of the book for her to not see herself in some of the other characters in this story. This is not by any stretch of the imagination a typical Christmas story. But still there were some really beautiful and sweet moments in here as well.

I also want to say that I'm really liking that we are getting to knoe Peabody more, and that she and Eve have settled into a really great relationship. That being said, I must say that I'm super excited to see peabosy start a love life of her own, cause I can't wait to know how that develops, cause she's a a wildcat that one.

Overall another great book for the series, and it really is perfect for the holidays, reminds us all why they are so important, and why we should cherish our loved ones a bit more at this time of year.

The King

The King - Tiffany Reisz I loved every second of this book, and truth be told, I always knew I loved Kingsley Edge, but I've to realize now that I love him more than Nora or Soren. Kingsley is a beautiful man, with all his complexities. The fact that he loves the way he does inspite of the fact that so much has happened is by far one of the things that is more beautiful about him. Kings is who he is, and I love that he accepts that and doesn't need anyone else's approval.. I'm so happy that we got this book, it is my favorite of the series, and I don't think thats going to change.

Crossing the Line (Battered Hearts #3)

Crossing the Line (Battered Hearts #3) - Kele Moon So I started this series, as a rnadom pick of NetGalley books, and while I liked Clay and Melody's story. It was Romeo and Jules who stole my heart. But with every successive book, we get to the Garnett crew a little bit better, and I fall for them a bit more. Wyatt Conner had the most intriguing story of all. Reading the last book made me want an HEA for him so badly.

The complexity of this book astounded me. I couldn't believe that we were actually getting so much back story of Clay, Jules and Wyatt. And also I never saw Wyatt be this awesome before. It was so clear that he'd loved Tabitha for such a long time, that somewhere along the way he'd lost himself in their love. And the fact that he waited 13 years for Tabitha was just heart breaking, and the revelation of what he believed caused her to leave was so sad, and even worse was what she actually had to endure, just really made this book so emotional. I was so happy though to finally get to meet and know Sheriff Fred Conner, I think Jules and Clay had both mentioned him, but actually seeing him raise his kids just brought the story full circle. I have to also say that reading what happened Clay kinda makes me want to go back and read the first book all over, just to get a better picture of him. I loved this story, it really moved my heart, and I loved that there was more Nova, Tino, Jules and Romeo, I think that all these characters are just so perfect together.

Loved this book!

Also it was a pleasant surprise to know that this ended with a Christmas scene, right around the holidays. It was just a perfect ending.

A Last Chance Christmas (Harlequin BlazeSons of Chance)

A Last Chance Christmas (Harlequin BlazeSons of Chance) - Vicki Lewis Thompson This was such a sweet story. I think its so beautiful when someone doesn't think they will find love or family, and then by coincidence they are forced into both. But these characters were also way likable, and even more than that, I think the Chance family are just perfect at Christmas time. Overall good holidays book that's for sure.

Play Me #4: Play Me Real (Sebastian Caine)

Play Me #4: Play Me Real (Sebastian Caine) - Tracy Wolff ROLLER COASTER!

This book went from Erotica to crazy murder mystery, back to erotica, to psychological thriller in a few pages. I can't believe all that we have learned. And Sebastian is breaking my heart into a billion pieces. What happnened to him sucks! And he tried so hard, it really shows why there is such a clear divide between him and his dad. I have to say I dont get why the installment ended the way it did. I really didn't like what Aria did, but I'm guessing that there is more to her story...

HOW CAN ALL THIS BE OVER SO SOON?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?

Play Me #5: Play Me Right (Sebastian Caine)

Play Me #5: Play Me Right (Sebastian Caine) - Tracy Wolff WOW

So much has happened in this last installment, but I loved every very short moment of it. I have to say that this story was so much more than I expected. In these 5 short installments I have fallen madly in love with these two characters. I think that their story still has a long way to go, but I can't wait to see them go through it together. Sebastian and Aria have both had rough back grounds, but their lives were already entiwined before they ever met. I think they are perfect together because only they can understand what they've been through, both having parents who are so ruthless, and terrible, and both getting out from under their parents and still being the wonderful people that they are. I really want more of these two. I want to know why Aria's dad is no longer close to the family that he was once willing to sell his daughter to, and why Sebastian's dad all of a sudden has a change of heart about how he treats his son. I have to say that more than anything else

Play Me #3: Play Me Hard (Sebastian Caine)

Play Me #3: Play Me Hard (Sebastian Caine) - Tracy Wolff Things are clearly heating up between these two, and I like that this installment tried to get them to know each other with their clothes on. I'm dying to know what their secrets are, cause based on this installment they are DARK or at least Aria's are dark.

Also...

Ethan Frost walked in the room, and all I could think about was him.

I cannot believe the way Aria walked into that office though, which really leads me to think that her secret is really bad if she needs sex to drown out the pain, and for her to approach Sebastian so boldly it really says something.

I'm so excited for the rest of this series.

Take the Heat: A Criminal Romance Anthology

Take the Heat: A Criminal Romance Anthology - Skye Warren, Pam Godwin, Shoshanna Evers, Giselle Renarde, Tamsin Flowers, Elizabeth Coldwell, Cynthia Rayne, Trent Evans, Audrey Lusk, Sheri Savill 3.5 Stars

I think that this compilation is more than a little DARK its very dark, but most of the stories are so short its hard to really understand or enjoy the characters, especially in light of the dark nature of the content of this book (pun intended). But there were a few stories in here that really got me, even made me tear up, and the sex though dark was usually hot. This is not for everyone but if you like a walk on the dark side give these stories a try, I think they would be perfect for a short vacation read, since there are so many individual stories in here, it would be great since you don't need to concentrate.

Captivated by You

Captivated by You - Sylvia Day I just don't know.....

Play Me #2: Play Me Hot (Sebastian Caine)

Play Me #2: Play Me Hot (Sebastian Caine) - Tracy Wolff I enjoyed this book, however, the emotional attachment wasn't there for me. The sex was epic and hot, but I guess the author did a really good job of separating the sex and the emotion, cause when it was over, it was over. I did enjoy how wound up Sebastian was by the end, its nice to see the guy be the one who is overanalyzing every once in a while...

On to book 3

Play Me #1: Play Me Wild (Sebastian Caine)

Play Me #1: Play Me Wild (Sebastian Caine) - Tracy Wolff Great start to this serial,

I loved the feeling that the author created. I felt every emotion of these two, so many questions, I wonder if we'll get all the answers fast enough.

Great beginning to this series. Jumping right into the next one.

Red Rising

Red Rising - Pierce Brown This book saved 2014, OMG! So amazing. In a year when I felt only lackluster books were being released I am so happy I picked up this one. Special thanks to Rachel C. for recommending this book

What can I say. I'm not sure what I as expecting with this story but I knew this was not it.

This book had everything, characters that were so real that I could see each one of them, a fictional world so real that I could see the mines of the Reds, feel the passion of the Pinks, and taste the overindulgence of the Golds. For me, this book is a fantastic start to what will be an amazing series.

We meet Darrow born a Red which is the lowest caste of people in the known universe, at a particularly hard time. Darrow has lost his father to a rebellion he does not understand, and then he starts to lose more. He loses more because he dares to dream of a better life. and it is really Darrow's loss that propels this entire story. When he is given a second chance at life, as a different being born into the highest caste he becomes a leader, and one who will lead the rebellion for a change in the Society in which they live.

"Death isn't empty like you sau it is. Emptiness is life without freedom, Darrow. Emptiness is living enchained by fear, fear of loss, of death. I say we break those chains. Break the chains of fear and you break the chains that bind us to the Gold, to the Society."

But to bring about this rebellion Darrow must infiltrate the ranks, and the easiest way to prove his worth is to enroll in the most prestigious Institute, and go through the training. A training unlike one I have ever encountered in literature. Darrow is thrown into a world of battle, of wars and soldiers and kings, and as the enemies against him mount, Darrow must learn how to tell enemy from friend. He learns some very hard lessons along the way, but at the same time, he sees hope.

"Personally, I do not ant to make you a man. Men are so frail. Men break. Men die. no, I've always wished to make a god....Do why not carve you to be the god of war?"

It is Darrow's hope that propels his victories, it propels his failures, it propels him period. It leads him to do things that no other student has ever done. Darrow completely changes everything about the game he has been forced to play, and in so doing he changes the opinions of the the people around him. Darrow goes from the boy who no one knows from the family no one knows to the Reaper, the leader who sees a need for more than just slaves and soldiers.

There are snakes neat the river. Vultures in the quiet gulches. Killers running beside me. hat fried I have... I'm a sheep wearing wolves clothing in a pack of wolves.

I loved every moment of this book, for me there so as so to learn so much to embrace. I did cry, and it as hard at times to remember that these were teenagers, the behavior of these young people when placed in this environment was so barbaric at times. And yet there were so many moments when I could see the immaturity in the boys, the jokes they made, the times hen young love blossomed so innocent at first. I think Pierce Brown has really crafted a masterpiece. The balances in this book were spectacular from the pacing to the characterization to the settings, everything just fit together to effortlessly.

"I will learn to lead fleets. I will I will sharpen myself into a sword. I will give my soul. I will dive to hell in hopes of one day rising to freedom. I ill sacrifice. And I will grow my legend and spread amongst the peoples of all the worlds until I am fit to lead the armies that will break the chains of bondage, because I am not simple an agent of the Sons of Ares. I am not simple a tactic or a device in Ares's schemes. i am the hope of my people. Of all people in bondage.

Filthy Beautiful Love

Filthy Beautiful Love - Kendall Ryan Not as good as the first book, I thought that the author took some really predictable turns in this one, and, I also thought the end was unsatisfying, but I will say that I am looking forward to Pace's book, so that's a good sign I think.

Overall, I'm glad we found out about Colton's past, and that it was well done, but the rest of the book was super predictable, it did make me cry, but even that scene was predictable.

Filthy Beautiful Lies

Filthy Beautiful Lies - Kendall Ryan I really liked this story. I have to say that Colton is so loveable its hard for me to imagine him being who he was at the end of this book. I hate that this ended in a major cliffhanger, but I guess its fine since the second book has already been released. What's there to say the blurb more than adequately captures the gist of the story, however, I really liked the relationship that develops between Colton and Sophie, it feels more like a friendship than a man and his million dollar sex slave that is for sure. I have to say while I really liked this story it definitely didn't blow me away, but I'm looking forward to the next book in the series to see how this all ends.
